Vallejo Model Air — Complete Colour Guide for Scale Modellers
Vallejo Model Air
Complete colour listing · Pre-thinned acrylics for airbrushing
The most historically researched military paint range available
Vallejo Model Air is a water-based acrylic formula pre-thinned for airbrushing straight from the bottle. Formulated with a flat finish and fine pigment suspension specifically designed for airbrush use at low pressure — no thinning required for most applications. The range covers military aviation and armour subjects from WWI through to modern conflicts, with precise FS, RLM, BS, RAL, and official national colour standard references for every major air force and army.
Each colour in the table below includes the specific aircraft, vehicle, or unit it was designed for, along with the relevant colour standard reference where applicable — so you can match paint to subject with confidence. The range also includes paint sets grouped by air force and theatre, listed at the end of this guide.
All bottles are 17 ml with Vallejo's precision dropper cap. Stock at Wheels & Wings rotates regularly — click any SKU to check current availability and add to your basket.
Airbrushing with Model Air — thinning and mediums
Model Air is pre-thinned and ready to spray at 15–20 PSI through a 0.3–0.4mm needle straight from the bottle for most applications. For finer atomisation, tighter camouflage lines, or larger needle sizes, a small addition of Vallejo Airbrush Thinner (VLJ71161) keeps flow consistent without breaking down colour or adhesion.
Do not thin Model Air with water — the high surface tension can cause tip dry, uneven flow, and fisheye effects. For extended sessions or high-detail pass work, a few drops of Airbrush Flow Improver (VLJ71362) added to the mix keeps the needle clean and improves atomisation — particularly useful on large panel areas where banding is most visible. For brush painting, thin with water or acrylic thinner as needed.

The most complete military aviation and armour colour range available
Vallejo Model Air has earned its place as the gold standard for historically accurate military modelling colour — not because of marketing, but because no other range comes close for the depth of FS, RLM, BS, and national colour standard references it covers. From the exact Dunkelgelb of Rommel's Tigers to the nuanced grey sequences of a modern Flanker, every colour in the range exists for a specific reason.
We stock the full range at Wheels & Wings Hobbies. If a colour you need isn't showing as available, we can usually order it — just reach out and we'll check with our Vallejo distributor. Click through to any SKU to check current stock and pricing, or browse the full Vallejo range below.
For brush painting applications, the sister range Vallejo Model Color covers the same military subjects with a thicker formula designed for direct brush work. Both ranges share the same dropper bottle format and mix freely with each other.
