After German reunification in 1990, the Luftwaffe took over Airbus A310s from Interflug, the former East German airline. It operated them with the Flugbereitschaft BMVg, the German Ministry of Defence’s special air mission wing at Cologne-Bonn. The A310s carried the Chancellor, government ministers and official delegations around the world, and they also flew troop transport, medical evacuation and humanitarian missions. A310 10+23 later wore a special anniversary tail celebrating its home city of Cologne, with Cologne Cathedral, the Hohenzollern Bridge and aircraft trailing smoke.
