Description

GMP12024 - GMP 1/18 McLaren M8B High Wing

The McLaren M8B was the car that made the 1969 Can-Am series the “Bruce and Denny Show.” It was developed from the championship-winning M8A of 1968. The M8B was the only McLaren to use a tall, Chaparral-style rear wing mounted directly on the rear hubs, which pushed the downforce straight onto the tires. Its 430 cubic inch aluminum Chevrolet V8 was said to produce about 680 hp, and only three cars were built. McLaren won all 11 races of the 1969 season. Bruce McLaren clinched the championship by winning the final round at Texas International Speedway on November 9, 1969, finishing six wins and 165 points to Denny Hulme’s five wins and 160 points. Both Hulme and team manager Teddy Mayer later called the M8B the best McLaren the team ever built. This GMP replica depicts Bruce McLaren’s championship-winning #4 car.
