Complete colour listing · 18ml water-based acrylic · 162 colours · 19 metallics · 18 washes · Miniature wargaming paint system

The Army Painter's complete acrylic system

Warpaints Fanatic is The Army Painter's core acrylic paint line — a comprehensive system of 162 base colours, 19 metallics, and 18 washes covering every colour family and painting need in miniature wargaming. All 18ml pots at a highly competitive price point, Fanatic is one of the best value acrylic ranges available for hobby painting. The range is designed as a direct counterpart to Citadel's Base and Layer system and can be used interchangeably — Fanatic colours mix freely with other acrylic brands and work with any standard miniature painting technique.

Unlike Citadel, Army Painter does not subdivide Fanatic into separate Base and Layer lines — all Fanatic acrylics are formulated for good coverage and highlighting flexibility. The dedicated Fanatic Washes function identically to Citadel Shade washes and cover every colour family. All 199 individual Fanatic paints are listed below. Click any SKU to check stock and purchase.

Format 18ml flip-top pot
Medium Water-based acrylic
Price $5.25 per pot
Colours listed 199 (162 acrylic + 19 metallic + 18 wash)

Using Warpaints Fanatic

Fanatic acrylics apply straight from the pot over any primed surface. Thin slightly with water for smoother coverage on large flat areas, or use straight for good opacity in one to two coats. All colours are compatible with Army Painter Colour Primers and Speedpaint 2.0 — prime with a Colour Primer, apply Speedpaint for speed work, then use Fanatic acrylics for detail work and highlights.

Fanatic Washes are applied after base colours have dried — flood over the area and allow the wash to settle into recesses. The Wash Medium (TAPWP3216) can be mixed 1:1 with any wash to slow drying and reduce tide marks on flat surfaces, identical to Citadel's Lahmian Medium technique.

TAPWP3192
Metallic Plate Mail Metal
Mid silver-grey metallic. Also available as a Colour Primer spray. The Army Painter's primary dark silver — equivalent to Citadel Leadbelcher. The most-used metallic in the range — apply, shade with Dark Tone wash, highlight with Shining Silver for a classic armour result.

TAPWP3195
Metallic Death Metal
Very dark near-black metallic. Used for the darkest metallic shadow areas on dark armour, black armour metallic recesses, Death Guard corroded dark metal, and Chaos Black Legion armour where a slight metallic sheen in the deepest shadows adds depth. Apply this in recesses before highlighting up to Plate Mail Metal and Shining Silver.
TAPWP3188
Metallic Greedy Gold

Used for Stormcast Eternals gold armour, Space Marine chapter symbols, trophy racks and ornamentation, and any model requiring a solid, opaque gold base. Clean warm copper. Used for Mechanicus and Adeptus Mechanicus copper pipes and fittings, Chaos engine and daemonic engine copper plating, steam-punk and industrial terrain, and any model with real copper-toned metalwork. A clean, bright copper without the red cast of red copper — reads as new or freshly polished copper.
TAPWP3182
Metallic Red Copper
Dark red-toned copper. Used for aged and oxidising copper shadow areas, Chaos engine darkened copper plating, Skaven warp-driven copper machinery, and corroded bronze/copper as the shadow recess tone before verdigris effects are applied over it. Pairs perfectly with the Verdigris Effects product.

TAPWP3030
Bright Sapphire
Vivid blue metallic/jewel. Used for blue gemstone and sapphire effects, Tzeentch magical blue metallic accents, and power sword energy metallic highlights. Note: also listed in the Blues section — this colour bridges the acrylic and metallic lines as both a rich acrylic and a jewel-effect metallic.
Washes
TAPWP3200
Wash Strong Tone
Mid warm brown wash. Equivalent to Citadel Agrax Earthshade — the most universally useful shade in the range. Used on virtually every model type: brown leather, warm skin, bone, wood, and as a general all-over shade on infantry. If you only buy one Fanatic Wash, this is it. Deepens and warms any surface it touches.
TAPWP3199
Wash Dark Tone
Near-black dark brown wash. Equivalent to Citadel Nuln Oil — the universal dark metallic and armour shade. Used on all silver and dark metals, black and dark grey armour panels, mechanical and industrial surfaces, and any model where strong, deep shadow contrast is needed. The second most-used wash in the range after Strong Tone.
TAPWP3201
Wash Soft Tone
Light warm tan wash. Equivalent to Citadel Reikland Fleshshade — the standard skin and pale flesh shader. Used on human and creature skin tones, pale bone and ivory, light sandy surfaces, and any area where a gentle, warm shading is needed without darkening the base colour too heavily. Essential for all skin painting.
TAPWP3202
Wash Light Tone
Very pale warm wash. Used for the gentlest possible shading on pale and white models — white armour recesses, aged parchment, very pale skin, and cream-coloured cloth. Applied where Soft Tone would darken the base colour too much. Ideal for Death Guard white trim, Sisters of Battle white robes, and pristine white armour surface details.
TAPWP3203
Wash Sepia Tone
Warm brown-orange wash. Equivalent to Citadel Seraphim Sepia — used for aged parchment, scroll effects, warm bone and ivory shading, old wood, and any surface that benefits from a warm, slightly orange-brown shade. Gives surfaces an aged, antique quality — perfect for tomes, treasure chests, and ancient relics.
TAPWP3204
Wash Rust Tone
Orange-red rust wash. Used for rust effects on corroded metal — apply over silver metalwork before drybrushing orange and brown rust powders or paints on top. Also useful for heavily battle-worn Ork and Chaos machinery, ancient iron and steel on ruins terrain, and any model in a corroded, post-apocalyptic environment.
TAPWP3205
Wash Dark Red Tone
Deep dark red wash. Used for shading red armour on Khorne Berserkers, Blood Angels, and Dragon Red-based schemes. Adds deep, rich shadows into red armour recesses and panel lines. Also used for blood and gore shadow areas, dark red cloth shading, and vampiric model accessories. Equivalent to Citadel Carroburg Crimson.
TAPWP3206
Wash Red Tone
Bright mid-red wash. Used for shading red armour (lighter than Dark Red Tone), red cloth, and transparent red effects — blood on skin and armour, red energy coils and lens effects, and warm red tinting over skin and flesh surfaces. More translucent than Dark Red Tone — better for glazing warmth into surfaces than deep shadow shading.
TAPWP3207
Wash Orange Tone
Warm orange-brown wash. Used for shading orange and fire models — Fyreslayer skin over orange base, fire OSL shadow areas, orange leather straps, and warm wood grain shading. Also gives gold a warm, slightly orange richness — apply over Greedy Gold base as an alternative to Strong Tone for a warmer, richer gold result.
TAPWP3208
Wash Green Tone
Rich green wash. The primary shade for all greenskin models — used on Orc/Ork/Orruk skin over Greenskin base, Goblin skin, and any green-toned creature. Equivalent to Citadel Biel-Tan Green (replaced) — shades green skin quickly and adds depth to all green surfaces including leaves, vegetation basing, and green armour.
TAPWP3209
Wash Military Shade
Dark olive-green wash. Used for military uniforms and khaki clothing, Astra Militarum fatigues, camouflage pattern shading, and historical military vehicle shading in green-brown. Adds depth and shadows to military green and khaki surfaces without going as warm as Strong Tone or as cool as Green Tone.
TAPWP3210
Wash Blue Tone
Rich blue wash. Used for shading blue Space Marine armour over Regal Blue base, Idoneth Deepkin model shadows, and any blue surface requiring a translucent blue depth shade. Equivalent to Citadel Drakenhof Nightshade — the standard shader for all blue armour and blue-toned skin like Nighthaunt and Spirit models.
TAPWP3211
Wash Dark Blue Tone
Near-black dark blue wash. Used for very deep blue armour shading, Night Lords and dark blue Chaos armour recess shading, deep ocean-effect models, and any blue scheme requiring the deepest possible shadow contrast. Darker than Blue Tone — used where a standard blue shade would be too light for the desired depth.
TAPWP3212
Wash Purple Tone
Rich purple wash. Used for shading Genestealer and Tyranid purple skin, Slaanesh daemon models, Drukhari armour, and any purple scheme requiring a deep, colour-accurate shade. Equivalent to Citadel Druchii Violet — the standard shader for all purple-toned models.
TAPWP3213
Wash Magenta Tone
Deep magenta wash. Used for shading Slaanesh pink and magenta models, pink daemon skin recesses, Daughters of Khaine deep pink cloth shading, and warm pink-purple transitions. Adds vivid depth to any pink or magenta surface — a colour-accurate shader that keeps pink schemes vivid rather than greying them out.
TAPWP3214
Wash Strong Skin Shade
Warm, rich skin-toned wash. The dedicated skin shader for mid-to-dark skin tones — used over Carnelian Skin, Barbarian Flesh, and Jasper Skin bases for a warm, natural-looking shade. Adds depth and warmth to skin without darkening it as strongly as Strong Tone. Recommended over Soft Tone for any skin darker than a very light complexion.
TAPWP3215
Wash Dark Skin Shade
Deep warm brown skin shade. Used for shading dark and very dark skin tones — apply over Jasper Skin, Onyx Skin, and Mocca Skin bases for deep, rich shadow contrast. Equivalent in function to Citadel Reikland Fleshshade Gloss but for darker skin progressions. An essential shade for any army with dark-toned human characters represented across the range.
TAPWP3216
Wash Medium
Clear wash medium (colourless). Mixed 1:1 with any Fanatic Wash to slow drying time and reduce tide marks on large flat surfaces — the most common cause of wash pooling on flat areas. Equivalent to Citadel Lahmian Medium in use. Also used to thin and extend washes for glazing and wet-blending techniques. Essential for large-scale models and vehicles where washes are applied to large flat panels.
