Drukhari Kabalite Warrior Paint Guide with Tone Pro
John's Merry "Christmas You're Dead" Kabalite Warrior
Warhammer 40,000 - Drukhari - Kabal of the Baleful Gaze - Paint Guide
John is back again. You may know him from his Trench Crusade Sniper Priests and his Starcraft Zerg Queen, both on display in store. This time he turned his attention to a Drukhari Kabalite Warrior, painted in the colours of the Kabal of the Baleful Gaze and caught mid-throw with a smoke grenade.
With deep green armour over a rich red under suit, the model reads as unmistakably festive - which is how it ended up with the name: a merry "Christmas, you're dead" Kabalite Warrior.
This is also the first guide we are publishing painted with the new Warhammer Colour Tone Pro range, so John's thoughts on the paints themselves are at the end of the guide.
The Baleful Gaze is one of the great kabals of Commorragh. In the lore its warriors are known for an unmatched determination in the war against realspace, and for a surprising amount of respect earned because so many of its members climbed back out of the lowest rungs of Commorragh society.

How John Painted Him
Full breakdown by area. Nearly everything runs on the Warhammer Colour Tone Pro range, with a Tone Pro Shading Medium mixed into the recess shades and gradients. All products in stock at Wheels and Wings.
Hierotek Green Build-Up with Blackstone Void Shading
Hierotek Green 1 as the base, Hierotek Green 3 as the main highlight, and Hierotek Green 5 for the fine edge and dot highlights. Recess shading is Blackstone Void 1 mixed 1:1 with Tone Pro Shading Medium. Around the thigh area, Hierotek Green 3 mixed 1:1 with the shading medium is used to create a soft colour gradient that reads as a shadow across the armour.
Silver metallic on the armour is Leadbelcher. The orange jewel is built from Chotec Orange 4, then a Blackstone Void 1 dot, then a final dot of AK White as the glint of light.
Gal Vorbak Red Up Through Mephiston Red
Gal Vorbak Red as the base, Khorne Red for the main highlight, and Mephiston Red for the finer highlights. Recess shading with Blackstone Void 1.
Recess shading uses the Blackstone Void 1 and Shading Medium mix listed in the Armour section above.
Camouflage Middle Brown Mixed Up with Ice Yellow
Camouflage Middle Brown as the base. The first layer over the base is a mix of 2 parts Camouflage Middle Brown to 1 part Ice Yellow. Each following layer moves toward a 1:1 mix, building the cloth up gradually. The final edge highlights flip the ratio to 1 part Camouflage Middle Brown to 2 parts Ice Yellow.
Brass Scorpion
Oxford Blue Empty Space, Green Liquid, White Reflection
Oxford Blue is used on the empty portion of each vial. The liquid itself is Hierotek Green 3 mixed 1:1 with Plague Toad Venom 5. Plague Toad Venom 5 mixed with AK White is then painted down the middle of the vial to imply a glass reflection.
Leadbelcher with a Blackstone Void Wash
Leadbelcher base, then a wash made from Blackstone Void 1 mixed 1:1 with Tone Pro Shading Medium. Products are listed in the Armour section above.
Blackstone Void 3 Base, Blue Gorkshroom Wash, Ridge Highlights
Blackstone Void 3 as the base. A wash of Blue Gorkshroom 2 mixed with shading medium at 1 part Gorkshroom to 2 parts medium goes over the top for a cool tint. To finish, Blackstone Void 3 mixed 1:1 with shading medium is dotted onto the high ridges of the smoke to pull the shape forward.
Gun Metal, Runelord Brass, Bloodtoof Red Casing
AK Gun Metal for the metal body and Runelord Brass for the brass parts. The red casing steps up through Bloodtoof Red 2, 3 and 4, progressing through the tones. Gal Vorbak Red mixed 1:1 with shading medium adds recess shading on the red parts of the gun.
John's Thoughts on Warhammer Colour Tone Pro
This was John's first project with the Tone Pro range, so we asked him what he made of it after a full model's worth of use.
