SKWSW-350 - Sky Wave 1/700 O' Class Royal Navy Destroyer HMS Onslow G17 - WWWEB10108715
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The O class (also called the Onslow class) were the first destroyers built under the Royal Navy’s War Emergency Programme. They were completed in 1941 and 1942 and spent much of the war protecting the Arctic convoys to Russia. HMS Onslow (G17) led the 17th Destroyer Flotilla. On December 31, 1942, at the Battle of the Barents Sea, Captain Robert St. Vincent Sherbrooke used Onslow and her sister ships to fight off the German heavy cruiser Admiral Hipper and the pocket battleship Lützow, which were attacking convoy JW 51B. Onslow was badly damaged and Sherbrooke was seriously wounded, but the convoy got through without loss, and Sherbrooke was awarded the Victoria Cross. In 1949 Onslow was transferred to Pakistan as PNS Tippu Sultan. This vintage Sky Wave kit from Japan includes two complete O-class destroyers in 1/700, with pennant numbers for eight ships of the class.
