The Sukhoi Su-25, known by its NATO reporting name "Frogfoot" and the Russian nickname Grach, is a Soviet single-seat twin-engine close air support jet developed by Sukhoi and in service from 1981. Built to operate low and slow over the battlefield from rough forward airstrips, it features a welded titanium cockpit "bathtub" and a rugged, heavily armoured airframe designed to absorb ground fire, armed with a twin-barrel 30mm cannon and a wide range of rockets, bombs, and guided weapons on its underwing pylons. It first saw heavy combat in the Soviet-Afghan War, where its survivability was proven, and has since served in numerous conflicts with many air forces around the world, drawing frequent comparison to the American A-10.
