Kyle's Crimson Fists Paint Guide — Assault Intercessor Build Feature
Kyle's Crimson Fists — Ready for Armageddon
Warhammer 40,000 · Crimson Fists · Paint Guide
To prepare you for Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition, we're covering one of the chapters that doesn't get nearly enough attention - the Crimson Fists. With a confirmed role in the Armageddon conflict and their own decal sheet included in the upcoming Armageddon launch box, now is the perfect time to get them on the table.
Kyle's build is a standard Assault Intercessor painted in the classic Crimson Fists scheme - deep Macragge Blue armour, red gauntlets worn down with gun metal to show he's been punching Orks, and a satin finish that lets the deep blue read properly rather than flattening out under a heavy matt coat.
No chapter iconography on this one - Kyle didn't have any on hand when the build started, and he didn't let that stop him. With the Armageddon box including Crimson Fists transfers, there's a clean solution incoming.
The Warhammer 40,000 Armageddon launch box — the 11th Edition starter set — releases June 20, 2026 with pre-orders opening June 6. It includes Crimson Fists transfer sheets, making this an ideal time to get the scheme down before the box arrives. See our full Armageddon box breakdown.

How Kyle Painted It
Full step-by-step breakdown. All products in stock at Wheels & Wings.
Black Base
Black primer throughout. The black left showing at the panel edges and recesses gives the deep blue armour natural shadow depth without a wash.
Macragge Blue with White-Mix Highlights
Macragge Blue as the base coat across all armour. Highlights built up by mixing the same Macragge Blue with Corax White - keeping the highlight tone consistent with the base rather than shifting colour. The deep blue with black panel edges is exactly what the Crimson Fists scheme calls for.
Mephiston Red, Battle-Worn with Gun Metal
The crimson gauntlets - the chapter's defining feature - are based in Mephiston Red then highlighted with AK Gun Metal pencil on the raised knuckles and edges. The logic: these gauntlets have been punching Orks. The gun metal reads as bare metal showing through where the red paint has worn away from combat use - a quick detail that adds real character and tells a story.
White Line, Yellow Ink Glow
Corax White line painted down the centre of each lens, then Yellow Ink glazed over to tint the whole eye. The white reads through the ink as a reflection - a clean two-step glow effect that works particularly well against the deep blue of the Crimson Fists armour.
Chainmail & Nuln Oil Throughout
Chainmail Silver with Nuln Oil on all metal parts - backpack, weapons, and chest Aquila. The same consistent dark steel combination that appears across Kyle's Warhammer builds.
Black Casings, Charcoal Highlights & Soft Joints
Weapon casings based in Abaddon Black, highlighted with Heavy Charcoal. Soft armour joints painted straight Heavy Charcoal - keeping them dark and recessive so they don't compete with the armour colour.
Dark Fleshtone with Tan Highlight
Dark Fleshtone base on the belt and holsters, highlighted with Tan. No wash needed - the Dark Fleshtone provides enough depth on its own at this scale.
Parchment & Red Wax
Khaki base, Agrax Earthshade wash, highlighted back with Tan. Mephiston Red for the wax seal - tying the purity seals to the gauntlets and giving the model a second red element that reads as intentional rather than accidental.
Mulched Forest Floor - Black Tea & Static Grass
Black tea mixed with Woodland Scenics Static Grass to create a mulched, organic forest floor texture. The dark tea-stained base gives the static grass a wet, earthy look and contrasts beautifully with the deep blue armour above it.
Mecha Satin - Letting the Blue Breathe
Vallejo Mecha Satin chosen deliberately over matt. A heavy matt coat would flatten the deep Macragge Blue into a chalky, lifeless surface. Satin preserves the depth of the colour while stopping well short of gloss - the scheme reads properly under any lighting without looking like a toy.
