The P-51B was the first Merlin-powered Mustang variant, entering service with the USAAF's Eighth Air Force in England in late 1943 and transforming the strategic bombing campaign by providing long-range escort all the way to Berlin. Powered by the Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin V-1650-3, the B model was significantly faster than its Allison-engined predecessors and quickly proved superior to the Luftwaffe's Bf 109G and Fw 190A at altitude. This Tamiya kit is No. 42 in the 1/48 Scale Aircraft Series.
