Group 5 gave engineers almost free rein over bodywork, and Zakspeed took full advantage. The Ford Capri Turbo was a silhouette racer in the truest sense, a tube frame car wearing vastly widened composite bodywork over a Capri shape, powered by a turbocharged four cylinder BDA derived engine that pushed well beyond 500 horsepower in qualifying trim. Klaus Ludwig took the Würth sponsored car to the 1981 Deutsche Rennsport Meisterschaft title, going head to head with the Porsche 935s that dominated the category. The white, red and blue Würth livery remains one of the most recognisable in German touring car history.
