After four years away, the German touring car championship (DTM) returned in 2000. It came back as the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, with purpose-built silhouette racers based on production coupes. Mercedes-Benz entered the CLK DTM, developed by AMG. It had a carbon-fibre body over a tubular steel chassis, a front-mounted 4.0-litre V8 and wide, aggressive aerodynamics. The CLK dominated the comeback season, and Bernd Schneider took the 2000 drivers’ title. Team Warsteiner ran its CLKs in a striking black livery with the brewery’s distinctive white lettering. This Tamiya kit builds the Team Warsteiner CLK, with a detailed V8 under a removable bonnet.
