The Blohm & Voss BV 138 was a three-engine flying boat operated by the Luftwaffe for long-range maritime reconnaissance over the Atlantic, Baltic, and Arctic. Its distinctive twin-boom, short-hull shape earned it the nickname "Der fliegende Holzschuh," the flying clog. The MS variant carried a large degaussing ring slung around the airframe for detonating Allied magnetic sea mines.
