SKM0194 - SK Model 1/72 Fairey Battle - WWHP113853
Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn, decals useable but need work
The Fairey Battle was one of the first RAF aircraft with a Rolls-Royce Merlin engine and all-metal stressed-skin construction. It looked modern when it entered service in 1937. By 1940, however, the three-seat light bomber was too slow and too lightly armed for the air war in Europe. In May 1940 the Battle squadrons of the Advanced Air Striking Force in France suffered devastating losses, attacking the bridges at Sedan and Maastricht in the face of German fighters and flak. That summer, the newly formed Polish No. 300 “Masovian” and No. 301 “Pomeranian” Squadrons flew Battles at night against the German invasion barges massed in the Channel ports. Battles then went on to serve as trainers and target tugs, many of them here in Canada with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan. This SK Model kit from Poland builds one of three Polish-crewed Battles from 1940.
