The Antonov An-26 (NATO: "Curl") is a twin-turboprop military transport and utility aircraft developed from the An-24, entering service with the Soviet VTA (Military Transport Aviation) in 1972. Its primary design innovation was a rear-loading cargo ramp that could be lowered for vehicle access or slid beneath the fuselage for straight-in loading from a truck bed, combined with a pressurised cargo hold. Over 1,400 were built, serving with the Soviet Air Forces and a large number of Warsaw Pact and client-state air arms; many remain in service globally. Russian Project is a small Ukrainian/Russian short-run manufacturer that produced one of the earlier 1/72 injection-moulded kits of the An-26, first tooled around 2004.
