Description
ROD616 - Roden 1/32 Nieuport 28c1 - WWWEB10105822
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
Nieuport designed the 28 in late 1917 as its first true two-bay biplane fighter. It had a slim, round-section fuselage, a 160 hp Gnome 9N Monosoupape rotary engine and twin Vickers guns. The French chose the SPAD XIII instead, so the 28 went to the newly arrived American Expeditionary Force. On 14 April 1918, Lieutenants Alan Winslow and Douglas Campbell of the 94th Aero Squadron shot down two German aircraft over their own airfield at Toul. These were the first victories by an American-trained unit. Eddie Rickenbacker and Quentin Roosevelt flew Nieuport 28s too, before the American squadrons switched to the SPAD XIII that summer.
- 1/32 injection moulded kit, with parts moulded in grey on six sprues
