Description

ROD052 - Roden 1/72 Sopwith TF.1 Camel - WWHP113535

Preowned, Resealed, Mint

By late 1917 the RFC wanted a dedicated ground attack aircraft, and low flying over the trenches meant pilots were badly exposed to ground fire. Sopwith converted Camel B9278 into the TF.1, with two Lewis guns under the fuselage angled to fire forward and down at 45 degrees, a third Lewis on a Bowden and Williams mounting above the top wing, and steel plate armour around the cockpit. It first flew in February 1918 and went to France for trials, but the downward firing armament proved impractical and the project was dropped in favour of the purpose-built TF.2 Salamander.

In the box:

  • Three sprues of grey styrene with finely engraved rib and fabric detail
  • Cockpit with armour plating detail
  • Le Rhône rotary engine and cowling
  • Three Lewis guns, two ventral and one over the top wing
  • Waterslide decal sheet with RFC roundels, rudder stripes and serial B9278
  • Multi-language instruction sheet with history text and a colour painting guide
  • Marking option for B9278 flown by Captain L. J. Wackett, France, March 1918
  • Glue and paint required, neither supplied
