Built at Downsview in Toronto from 1965, the Twin Otter took the single-engine Otter's rough-field manners and gave them two PT6 turboprops, fixed gear and a high wing full of double-slotted flaps. The result lands short, hauls nineteen passengers or freight, and swaps between wheels, floats and skis, which is why it became the standard machine for northern Canadian bush operators, island airlines and Antarctic survey flights alike. The Canadian Armed Forces flew the CC-138 in the search and rescue role in the high-visibility yellow scheme shown here.
