The Nakajima Ki-44 Shoki ("Demon Queller") was designed as a dedicated interceptor rather than an all-purpose fighter, sacrificing manoeuvrability for speed and rate of climb. It earned its reputation as the IJAAF's most effective B-29 interceptor in the final year of the war, particularly in the defence of the Japanese homeland. Though disliked by many pilots for its demanding handling, skilled operators found it highly effective. Around 1,225 were built in total. Original new tool from Otaki, 1974; OT2-14-500 is the 1980 boxing. Series No. 8. Canadian distribution by Hobbycraft Canada.
