The March Engineering Indy car was one of the dominant chassis on the CART/PPG Indy Car World Series circuit through the early-to-mid 1980s, with the British constructor supplying customer teams across the field. The Valvoline-sponsored March was campaigned by Galles Racing with Al Unser Jr at the wheel, a regular presence at Indianapolis and across the oval and road courses of the CART series, carrying car number 3 in the distinctive white, blue, and red Valvoline livery. March's Indy cars were powered by Cosworth DFX turbocharged engines and represented the cutting edge of open-wheel oval racing technology of the era.
