BMW returned to Le Mans in 2010 for the first time since its overall win in 1999, entering the GT2 class with the M3 GT2. The car was based on the E92 M3 coupe and powered by a 4.0 litre V8. It had already proven itself in the American Le Mans Series. BMW Motorsport ran two cars, and the #78 was shared by Jörg Müller, Augusto Farfus and Uwe Alzen. It wore white with the classic BMW Motorsport stripes, while its sister car carried Jeff Koons’ Art Car design.
