Peugeot came back to Le Mans in 2007 with the 908 HDi FAP, a closed-cockpit LMP1 prototype powered by a 5.5 litre twin-turbo V12 diesel. It went head to head with Audi's diesel R10. At the 2008 24 Hours, the 908s were the fastest cars in the field and took pole position, but changeable weather in the closing hours helped Audi hold on for the win. Franck Montagny, Ricardo Zonta and Christian Klien finished third in the #9 car, behind the sister #7 entry. Peugeot finally won Le Mans in 2009, with the #9 908 leading home a one-two finish.
