14533 - Minicraft 1/144 Conair DC-6B Firebomber - WWWEB10109132
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Douglas DC-6 first flew in 1946 as Douglas’s answer to the Lockheed Constellation. As a pressurised four-engine airliner it carried 54 to 102 passengers at around 270 mph, and the stretched DC-6B became the classic piston airliner of the 1950s, with production lasting until 1958. When jets replaced them, many DC-6s found a second career fighting forest fires. Conair Aviation of Abbotsford, British Columbia was founded in 1969 as a spin-off of Skyway Air Services, and it became one of the world’s leading aerial firefighting companies. Conair fitted its DC-6s with large belly tanks that could drop thousands of litres of retardant directly onto a fire line. They protected Canadian forests for decades, and this kit shows Tanker 46, C-GHLY, in Conair’s white and red livery.
