This particular Douglas DC-3 has been flying continuously since 1945. The Navy loaned it and four others to the Civil Aeronautics Administration, later the FAA, as flight inspection aircraft, and it likely flew into Berlin during the airlift. Withdrawn from inspection duties in 1981 and reassigned to the Oklahoma City training programme, N34 was saved from disposal and reinstated by the FAA Administrator in 1985. It still carries the equipment and furnishings installed in 1957, and appeared at the First Flight Centennial at Kitty Hawk in 2003.
