The Lockheed Ventura was a military development of the Lodestar airliner, ordered by Britain as a heavier and faster replacement for the Hudson. The Ventura II served with RAF Bomber Command from late 1942 on daylight raids over occupied Europe, where its losses proved the type unsuited to unescorted medium bombing, and it went on to more successful work in the maritime patrol and anti-submarine role. Box art shows AE924 in the YH codes of 21 Squadron.
