The Lockheed Ventura was a military development of the Lodestar airliner, ordered by Britain as a larger and faster successor to the Hudson. The Ventura II went to RAF Bomber Command in late 1942 for daylight raids over occupied Europe, where heavy losses showed the type was ill suited to unescorted medium bombing, and it found better work afterwards in maritime patrol and anti-submarine squadrons. Box art shows AE924 wearing the YH codes of 21 Squadron.
