The English Electric Canberra PR.9 was the definitive photo-reconnaissance variant of the Canberra family, featuring an extended wingspan, uprated Avon 206 engines, and an offset fighter-style cockpit. Entering RAF service in 1960, it served with Nos. 13, 39, and 58 Squadrons in the strategic reconnaissance role until No. 39 Squadron's retirement of the type in 2006 — one of the longest front-line careers of any RAF aircraft. During its operational life it served from bases including RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire and RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus.
