Description
MATPK-134 - Matchbox 1/72 F3D-2 Skyknight - WWWEB10109194
Preowned, Resealed, Mint inside, Box worn
The Skyknight was the US Navy's first purpose-built jet night fighter, a portly side-by-side two-seater that quietly became the top-scoring Navy/Marine night fighter of the Korean War, downing more enemy aircraft at night than any other type. It later soldiered on in Vietnam as the EF-10B electronic warfare platform.
This is the original 1987 Matchbox tooling, one of the very last new tools the company produced, made in England. For decades it was effectively the only injection-molded Skyknight in 1/72, and the two decal options could not be more different: a high-visibility orange and white Miramar trainer or an all-black Korean War night fighter.
Box contents:
- Parts molded in three colours of plastic with clear canopy
- Waterslide decals with two options: F3D-2T2 of VF-121, NAS Miramar, California 1958, in orange and white, and F3D-2 of VMF(N)-513 "Flying Nightmares," K-6 Airfield, Pyongtaek, South Korea, August 1953, in overall black
- Instruction leaflet with full colour plan on the box rear
