Description
MATPK-105 - Matchbox 1/72 Walrus Mk-1 - WWHP112279
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Walrus was the Royal Navy's standard catapult-launched amphibian, flung from the cruisers and battleships of the fleet for spotting and reconnaissance, then immortalized in WWII as an air-sea rescue lifesaver that plucked hundreds of downed airmen from the Channel and Mediterranean. The box art depicts L2180 of HMS Sheffield landing in Hong Kong harbour, 1938.
This is the original 1973 Matchbox tooling in its first-issue box style, made in England by Lesney. Alongside the old Airfix kit it was one of the only mainstream Walrus options in 1/72 for decades.
Box contents:
- Parts molded in three colours of plastic with clear parts
- Waterslide decals with two Fleet Air Arm options: L2180 "38" of HMS Sheffield, 1938, in overall silver, and L2217 of No. 283 Squadron, Italy 1944, in Extra Dark Sea Grey and Slate Grey over Sky
- Instruction leaflet with separate colour chart
