MATPK-123 - Matchbox 1/72 Wellesley Mk.I - WWWEB10109188
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Vickers Wellesley introduced Barnes Wallis's geodetic construction to RAF service, the lattice airframe later made famous by the Wellington. Built for range, three Wellesleys of the RAF Long Range Development Unit flew non-stop from Egypt to Australia in 1938 - a world distance record of 7,162 miles that stood until 1945. Wellesleys then fought in the East African campaign against Italy, bombing from Sudan into Eritrea and Ethiopia.
Matchbox issue with the type's distinctive underwing bomb panniers - still the only mainstream injection kit of the Wellesley in this scale.
Contents:
- Parts in two-colour plastic
- Decals for two schemes: No. 14 (Bomber) Squadron, RAF Amman, Transjordan, 1938 and Wellesley Mk.I (ex-148 Squadron) engine development test bed for the L.R.D.U. aircraft, 1938
- Instruction leaflet with colour plans
