HC1657 - Hobbycraft 1/48 DHC Otter Wheels/Floats - PREOWNED10117485
Preowned, Original seal, Mint
The de Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter first flew at Downsview here in Toronto on December 12, 1951. It was designed as a bigger, more capable successor to the Beaver. It could carry up to 10 passengers or more than a tonne of cargo, and it took off from short strips, lakes and snowfields on wheels, floats or skis, so it quickly became a workhorse of the North. The RCAF flew Otters for search and rescue and utility work, often in natural metal with high-visibility orange trim and “RESCUE” titles. The U.S. Army was the largest Otter operator, buying 184 as the U-1A, and many of them wore white and red Arctic markings. This larger-scale Hobbycraft kit builds either an RCAF Rescue Otter on floats or a U.S. Army Otter on wheels, as shown on the box art.
