Preowned, Resealed, Mint
The Canadair CL-415 is one of Canada’s great aviation exports. It was built in Montreal as a turboprop development of the piston-engined CL-215, and it first flew in December 1993. Its two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW123AF turboprops let it skim across a lake or the sea at about 110 km/h and scoop up 6,150 litres of water in about 12 seconds. It can then fly straight back to the fire and drop it, often making dozens of drops on a single tank of fuel. On February 9, 1995, France’s Sécurité Civile took delivery of the first production CL-415. Its bright yellow and red “bombardiers d’eau” became a familiar sight over the Mediterranean forests every summer. Here in Canada, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba and Newfoundland and Labrador fly the same aircraft against forest fires. This Heller kit builds F-ZBEG, “39”, of the Sécurité Civile, as shown on the box art.
