Description
HAS10858 - Hasegawa 1/144 NAMC YS-11EL ELINT (Electronic Intelligence)
The NAMC YS-11 is a twin-turboprop airliner designed and built by the Nihon Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation, a Japanese consortium. It was the only post-war airliner wholly designed and manufactured in Japan until the 2010s, with its prototype making its maiden flight on 30 August 1962 and production running until 1974. The Japan Air Self-Defense Force operated multiple specialised variants of the YS-11, including the YS-11EA and YS-11EB for electronic warfare and intelligence gathering. Four YS-11C transport aircraft were transferred to a new JASDF squadron in 1991 and modified into YS-11EL aircraft fitted with the J/ALR-1 SIGINT (Signals Intelligence) sensor suite, later upgraded to the J/ALR-2 system. The YS-11EL is readily identified by its distinctive radome and sensor fairings, distinguishing it sharply from the standard transport airframe.
This Hasegawa kit reproduces the YS-11EL electronic measuring instrument aircraft, with the characteristic radome and sensors replicated using resin parts.
