The Mitsubishi A7M Reppu, given the Allied reporting name "Sam," was designed by Jiro Horikoshi as the intended successor to the A6M Zero. The A7M2 was fitted with the more powerful Mitsubishi MK9A (Ha-43) engine and finally delivered the climb and speed the Imperial Japanese Navy wanted, but worsening war conditions meant it never reached mass production and only a handful were completed before the war ended. This is the Fine Molds tooling first released in 2000, in the limited FP18E boxing that adds a photo-etched detail fret.
