The M48 Patton was the principal U.S. medium tank of the 1950s and 1960s, entering service in 1952 and serving with American forces in Korea and Vietnam as well as with numerous NATO and allied armies. The M48A2 variant introduced a fuel-injected Continental AVI-1790-8 engine for improved range and reliability, along with a redesigned engine deck and updated fire control. The type saw combat service with U.S. forces in Vietnam and with Israeli forces during the 1967 and 1973 Arab-Israeli wars.
