When durability matters as much as colour

Vallejo Premium Color is a professional-grade acrylic polyurethane paint formulated for airbrushing on demanding surfaces. Where standard hobby acrylics can chip and wear on handled models, the hybrid acrylic-polyurethane resin in Premium Color delivers exceptional adhesion, flexibility, and impact resistance — making it the paint of choice when a model gets picked up, handled, posed, or displayed in conditions where standard acrylics would fail.

The formula was engineered for superior adhesion to Lexan polycarbonate, fibreglass, polyethylene, resin, and metal — surfaces that standard model acrylics struggle to grip. This makes it particularly effective on Gunpla polycarbonate clear parts, resin cast model kits, metal miniatures, and any build where long-term durability is a priority. All colours are airbrush-ready at 0.3mm nozzle size and fully intermixable across the range.

The range includes 20 opaque colours, 10 fluorescents including a Phosphorescent, 12 metallics covering everything from Silver and Gold through to Gunmetal and Metallic Black, and 9 transparent Candy colours for show-quality deep colour effects when applied over a metallic base.

Thinning: Premium Color is airbrush-ready straight from the bottle at 0.3mm nozzle size — no thinning required for standard work. For finer nozzles (0.2mm or smaller) or detail airbrushing, thin with Reducer 62.066 at 10–20% for general spraying or up to 30% for fine detail. Do not thin with water — water is incompatible with the polyurethane binder and will degrade adhesion. Priming: Primer is recommended on all surfaces for best durability. On polycarbonate, Lexan, and fibreglass Vallejo specifically requires Polyurethane Primer 62.061 as the base coat. On standard plastic kits primer improves chip resistance but the paint will adhere without it on clean surfaces.

Best uses for Premium Color

Gunpla & Gundam kits — the polyurethane formula grips polycarbonate and ABS plastic far better than standard acrylics, giving handled builds genuine chip resistance. Resin model kits — exceptional adhesion without priming in many cases. Metal miniatures — bonds to bare metal where standard acrylics lift. Scale model custom finishes — the Candy and fluorescent ranges produce effects impossible with regular model paints. Diorama scenic elements — the Clear Base creates tinted transparent glazes for water effects and resin pours.

Candy colour tip

All Candy colours (62.071–62.079) are transparent and must be applied over a metallic base to achieve their characteristic depth effect. Apply Silver (62.048) as the base for most Candy colours. For Candy Yellow or Candy Brown, Gold (62.049) as the base produces a warmer, deeper amber effect. Build up in multiple thin coats to increase colour depth and translucency.
