Kyle's Space Marine 2 Heavy Las Intercessor Conversion — Build Feature
Kyle Builds a Space Marine 2 Heavy Las Intercessor Conversion
Warhammer 40,000 · Custom Conversion · Full Build & Paint Guide
Space Marine 2 was the inspiration for this one-off custom Heavy Las Intercessor. The las-gun is sourced from the Eliminators kit and heavily modified away from its sniper configuration - Kyle wanted the shorter, heavier rifle look from the game rather than a sniper barrel. The backpack is from the Devastator Squad, and lead wire replaces the power cables throughout.
Might not be codex compliant, but it was a fun project. AK 3rd Gen, Vallejo, and some Citadel throughout - exact colours lost to memory in a few spots, but the full recipe is documented below.

How Kyle Built and Painted It
Full step-by-step breakdown from conversion work through to the finished model.
Black Primer, French Army Grey-Blue
Black primer overall, then French Army Grey-Blue as the base coat across the armour. Drakenhof Nightshade cut with Lahmian Medium washed over the entire model to push the tone cooler and add depth to recesses. Once dry, a drybrush of the base colour restores the original grey-blue on the raised surfaces while leaving the shadows intact.
Burnished Edges - Darkened Base Mix
Rather than a lighter highlight colour, Kyle mixed French Army Grey-Blue with Abaddon Black to create a slightly darker tone for the edge highlights - implying burnishing on the armour edges rather than a bright specular highlight. A subtle but effective approach that keeps the overall tone unified.
Greedy Gold with Soft Tone Wash
Greedy Gold on all trim and the backpack skull, washed with Soft Tone to deepen the gold and shade the recesses.
Modified Eliminator Las-Rifle with Glowing Power Coil
The las-rifle is cut down from the Eliminators kit to achieve the shorter, heavier profile seen in Space Marine 2 rather than the long sniper configuration. Weapon casing in Vallejo Heavy Charcoal, metal parts in Plate Mail Metal with a Strong Tone wash. The power coil uses a three-stage glow effect worked from Pure Red at the darkest through to Lava Orange at the lightest, with a mix of the two for the in-between tones.
Power coil glow - Pure Red to Lava Orange
Low angle - weapon profile
Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic Pure Red - recesses and darkest areas of coil; also used for eye lenses and backpack lights
Army Painter Warpaints Fanatic Lava Orange - highlight tips of coil; mix Pure Red and Lava Orange for in-between tones. Same glow recipe used for eye lenses and backpack lights.
Devastator Pack, Lead Wire Cables & Glow Lights
The backpack is sourced from the old Devastator Squad kit. Power cables on the backpack are replaced with 0.8mm lead wire - cut to length and carefully bent to follow the cable routing. Power cable casings painted Deep Grey highlighted with Ash Grey for a worn rubber look. Exhaust vents in Plate Mail Metal with Dark Tone wash. The small backpack lights use the same Pure Red to Lava Orange glow recipe as the weapon power coil.

Leather Effect
Dark Fleshtone base with Strong Tone wash, edge highlighted with Fur Brown.
Parchment & Red Wax
Khaki base, Sepia wash, then re-highlighted with Khaki after the wash dries. Scarlet Red for the wax seal.
Games Workshop Decals with Strong Decal Solution
Standard Games Workshop decal sheet. Tamiya Mark Fit Strong used to conform the decal film into the surface detail.
Cork, Skulls & Ancient Stone
2mm cork and Citadel Skulls for structure. Onyx Skin over the cork as the base, then Mummified Grime Speedpaint for the grime effect. Ancient Stone for the raised stone highlights and as the skull base colour, with Mummified Grime applied over the skulls as well to tie them into the base.
