Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0 — Complete Colour Guide

Wheels & Wings Hobbies · Paint Reference

The Army Painter Speedpaint 2.0

Complete colour listing · 18ml water-based acrylic · 89 colours · One-coat speed painting system

One coat. Tabletop ready.

Speedpaint 2.0 is The Army Painter's one-coat speed painting system — 89 colours that self-shade and highlight in a single application. Apply over a white or light-coloured primer and Speedpaint's high-flow medium pools into recesses while thinning naturally over raised surfaces, producing instant shading and highlight variation with no extra work. The result is a tabletop-quality model from a single coat, making it one of the fastest ways to paint a large wargaming army.

Speedpaint 2.0 significantly improved on the original formula with better re-activation resistance — meaning you can paint over dried Speedpaint with regular acrylics or additional Speedpaint layers without lifting or reactivating the layer below. This was the key limitation of the original Speedpaint and its resolution makes 2.0 a genuinely practical speed-painting tool rather than a one-trick product. The Army Painter's equivalent to Citadel Contrast paints.

All 89 colours are listed below. Click any SKU to check stock and purchase.

Format 18ml flip-top pot
Medium Water-based acrylic
Price $5.75–$6.25 per pot
Best over White, Brainmatter Beige, or light Colour Primer

Getting the best from Speedpaint 2.0

Primer choice matters. Speedpaint works best over a bright white or off-white primer. Matt White Colour Primer gives the most vivid results. Brainmatter Beige Colour Primer produces warmer, slightly more muted tones. Avoid grey or dark primers — Speedpaint needs a light base to generate its self-shading effect.

Apply in one pass. Load your brush fully and apply in a single, flowing stroke. Going back over a drying area causes streaking. Work section by section rather than all at once on large models.

Speedpaint Medium (TAPWP2000, sold separately) can be mixed in to slow drying and reduce pooling on flat surfaces — the same technique as using Lahmian Medium with Citadel Contrast.

Layering over Speedpaint 2.0 is safe once fully dry. Use Fanatic acrylics for edge highlights and detail work on top of a Speedpaint base — the improved 2.0 formula will not reactivate under normal brush pressure with a damp brush.
