Description

AIRA05042A - Airfix 1/72 English Electric Lightning F.6 - WWWEB10105063

Preowned, Original seal, Mint

The English Electric Lightning was Britain's only all-British Mach 2 fighter, and its performance was extraordinary even by modern standards: two Avon engines stacked one above the other, a rate of climb that let it intercept targets few contemporaries could reach, and a reputation among pilots as one of the most exhilarating aircraft ever flown. The F.6 was the definitive interceptor variant, with a cambered wing, enlarged ventral tank, and provision for overwing ferry tanks. Range and armament were always limitations, but as an outright performer the Lightning had few rivals until the Tornado F3 replaced it in the 1980s. This Airfix 1/72 kit covers two RAF F.6 airframes.

Box contents:

  • Grey styrene sprues with fine recessed panel detail
  • Clear sprue for canopy and glazing
  • Detailed cockpit with pilot figure
  • Ventral tank, overwing ferry tanks, and Red Top missiles
  • Landing gear, wheels, and gear doors
  • Waterslide decal sheet for two options: English Electric Lightning F.6, No. 5 Squadron RAF Binbrook, Lincolnshire 1984, and No. 56 Squadron RAF Akrotiri and Luqa, Cyprus and Malta, June 1974
  • Illustrated multilingual assembly and painting instructions
  • Finished model measures 232 mm long with a 149 mm span
