1980s issue (Series 2) of Airfix's 1963 Lightning F.1A tooling, in the black-and-silver blueprint-style box of that era. Box art depicts XM192 / K of No. 111 Squadron RAF in natural metal with the squadron's black fin and lightning flash. A compact, simple build of the classic early short-fin Lightning with twin Firestreak missiles.

The English Electric Lightning was Britain's only all-British supersonic fighter, a Mach 2 interceptor whose stacked twin engines gave it a climb rate that stunned even later-generation pilots. F.1As flew with the RAF's premier air defence squadrons in the early 1960s, scrambling against Soviet bombers probing UK airspace.
