Description

AIR08013A - Airfix - 1/72 Avro Lancaster B.III - WWHP113288

Preowned, Original seal, Mint

The Avro Lancaster became the definitive RAF heavy bomber of the Second World War, entering service in 1942 and quickly overshadowing the Halifax and Stirling thanks to its long uninterrupted bomb bay and honest handling. Lancasters flew some 156,000 sorties and dropped more than 600,000 tons of bombs between 1942 and 1945, at a cost of 3,249 aircraft lost in action. Only 35 completed more than 100 operations. One of them was R5868 "S for Sugar", which served with No.83 Squadron and then No.467 Squadron RAAF at Waddington, and survives today at the RAF Museum with its bomb log and its defiant Hermann Göring quotation painted below the cockpit.
