AIR04171 - Airfix 1/144 British Airways VC10 - WWHP113842
Preowned, resealed, mint, some parts off sprue, decals useable but need work
The Vickers VC10 entered service with BOAC, the forerunner of British Airways, in April 1964. It was designed for BOAC’s routes to Africa and the Middle East, where many airports had short runways and the heat and high altitude cut aircraft performance. Its four rear-mounted Rolls-Royce Conway turbofans left the wing clean for powerful high-lift slats and flaps, so it could operate from airfields that other big jets couldn’t. Passengers loved it for its quiet cabin and smooth ride, and its rate of climb was impressive for an airliner. The RAF also flew VC10s as transports and air-to-air refuelling tankers until 2013. This vintage Airfix Skyking kit, made in England, builds a standard VC10 in the 1970s British Airways “Negus” livery, with registrations for G-ARVF, G-ARVG and G-ARVH.
