The Blenheim began life as a fast civil monoplane that outran the fighters of its day, and was ordered as a bomber in 1936. The Mk.IV added the scalloped, stepped nose that gave the navigator room and became the RAF's standard light bomber early in the war, flying the first sortie over Germany in 1939 and taking heavy losses on daylight raids. It also served in the Middle East and with the Free French, and the Mk.IVF fighter variant carried a ventral gun pack. Series 2 boxing, now discontinued.
