The Avro Anson was a twin-engine monoplane that entered RAF Coastal Command service in 1936 as the first RAF aircraft with a retractable undercarriage, and went on to become the standard multi-engine trainer of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan throughout World War II. Nicknamed "Faithful Annie" for its docile handling and reliability, it trained hundreds of thousands of aircrew — pilots, navigators, wireless operators, and bomb aimers — across Britain, Canada, and Australia. Over 11,000 Ansons were produced, with examples serving in more than 20 nations.
