The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 (NATO "Flogger") was a Soviet variable-geometry fighter that first flew in 1967, using a swing-wing design that adjusted sweep in flight. The MiG-23MLD (Flogger-K) was the final and most refined production variant, entering service in 1984 with aerodynamic and avionics upgrades that improved high angle-of-attack handling. It served in both fighter and fighter-bomber roles.
