The Porsche 917 was the car that delivered Porsche its first overall victories at Le Mans, in 1970 and 1971, and reshaped endurance racing with its flat-12 engine and slippery aerodynamics. It was campaigned in both long-tail (Langheck) form for high-speed circuits and short-tail (Kurzheck) form for greater downforce and handling. The Gulf-liveried 917s remain among the most iconic sports prototypes ever built.
