The BTR-80 is a Soviet-designed 8x8 amphibious armoured personnel carrier that entered service in 1986 as the successor to the BTR-70. It replaced the earlier vehicle's twin petrol engines with a single diesel, and mounts a 14.5mm KPVT heavy machine gun with a coaxial 7.62mm PKT in a conical turret. Fully amphibious and propelled in water by a waterjet, it remains in widespread service with Russia and numerous export operators. This is Trumpeter's newer-tool 1/72 kit, first released in 2010.
