The Sd.Kfz. 9 was the heaviest half-track the German Army fielded, built by FAMO of Breslau and powered by a twelve cylinder Maybach HL 108 TUKRM engine of around 250 horsepower. Production of the definitive F3 version began in 1939. Its main job was heavy recovery and towing, hauling tank transporter trailers and dragging disabled armour clear, and it also formed the basis for crane and Flak variants.
