The Baureihe 52 (Class 52) was Germany's wartime Kriegslokomotive, a simplified and standardised steam locomotive designed for rapid mass production and operation on the Eastern Front's rough, poorly maintained rail network. Over 6,000 were built between 1942 and 1945 by manufacturers across occupied Europe, making it one of the most produced steam locomotive classes in history. The Steifrahmentender (rigid-frame tender) variant paired the locomotive with a high-capacity coal and water tender designed for extended operations far from resupply points.
