TAMWL.D053 - Tamiya 1/700 Japan Navy Destroyer Shikinami - WWWEB10108726
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
Shikinami was one of the Fubuki-class Special Type destroyers, the Type II (Ayanami) group with the improved enclosed gun turrets. She was completed at Maizuru in December 1929. She had six 12.7 cm guns and nine 61 cm torpedo tubes, and she could reach 38 knots. Shikinami had one of the busiest careers of any Japanese destroyer. She supported the invasions of Malaya and Java and helped sink the cruisers USS Houston and HMAS Perth at the Battle of Sunda Strait in March 1942. She then fought at Midway and through the Guadalcanal campaign. On September 12, 1944, while she was escorting a convoy in the South China Sea, the submarine USS Growler torpedoed and sank her. This classic Tamiya Water Line Series kit builds Shikinami in her late-war fit, with extra anti-aircraft guns and radar as shown on the box art.
