TAMWL.D039 - Tamiya 1/700 Akatsuki Japan Navy Destroyer - WWHP113825
Preowned, Resealed, Mint
Akatsuki was the lead ship of the Akatsuki class, the final group of the Imperial Japanese Navy’s ground-breaking Special Type (Fubuki-class) destroyers. Her sister ships were Hibiki, Ikazuchi and Inazuma. She was completed at Sasebo on November 30, 1932. With six 12.7 cm guns, nine 61 cm torpedo tubes and a top speed of 38 knots, the Special Type destroyers were the most heavily armed destroyers in the world when they appeared. Akatsuki served through the early Pacific War. At the Naval Battle of Guadalcanal on the night of November 13, 1942, she switched on her searchlight to illuminate American ships and drew heavy fire. She was sunk within minutes, and only a handful of her crew survived. This classic Tamiya Water Line Series kit builds Akatsuki in her early-war fit.
